Burlington Bees Squirt, Novice & Bantam Select Coaches Named

The Burlington Amateur Softball Association is pleased to announce that Dennis Cicci and Nick Vuckovic have been named our Squirt Select coaches, Darrin Dawe has been named the Novice Select coach and Kirsten Beamish has been named the Bantam Select coach for the 2017 season.
Darrin is a certified coach with Baseball Canada and has 10 years of coaching experience – eight seasons with soccer, two seasons with basketball & hockey, and three seasons with Burlington baseball. Last season he was an assistant coach with the Burlington Bees Squirt Select Team. Joining the Novice Select team as assistant coaches again this year are Corri Lane and Kent Barber.
Kirsten has played fastball for over 35 years. She was an Assistant coach to the BASA Squirt Select in 2013, the Head Coach for a Novice Select team in 2015 (reaching third at provincials) and the Head Coach for Bantam girl,  2016.  She is enthusiastic and leads her teams to focus on their development of skills, team unity and respect
Pre-season workouts will begin in the next couple of months. If your daughter has expressed an interest in competing at a higher level, other than house league softball, please contact basaselect@basa.com

Note: All Select players must be a registered BASA house-league player to be eligible to participate in the BASA Select program.

The 2017 Burlington House League Select Program

What are the Benefits of the Select Program?

The girls’ select program offers players the opportunity to:
– Develop deeper game knowledge and position specific skills
– Represent Burlington in various cities across the province (mostly in the GTA area)

Play Softball at a Competitive Level

Teams represent Burlington in exhibition games, and in exciting (local) one-day tournaments.  Only those players who play BASA house league are permitted to try out for a Burlington select team. Select travel and commitment isn’t terribly demanding as players are asked to attend one extra practice per week, and travel to three or four tournaments throughout the season.  Sometimes, teams stay overnight if the tournament is a fair distance away. Select coaches are screened and selected carefully, so as to ensure the best qualified candidate becomes the coach. There is a select player fee. Finally, select operates outside of the house league schedule, so your player will not miss regular house league games or events.

Looking for Players

We are looking for players to play in mite, squirt, novice, bantam and midget teams. Only registered BASA house league players can participate in select. Typically, each select team (one per division) has a 12 player roster, and perhaps one or two call ups. There is a fee of approximately $225 to play on a select team; that fee helps to cover the cost of the team uniform, tournaments and equipment.  (Players keep the uniform.) Players must also commit to fundraising.
If you have any questions or concerns about the select program, then please email our Select Director at basaselect@basa.ca.
