Umpires are an important part of the softball experience. BASA’s goal is to have a group of dedicated experienced umpires as well as fuel the development of our junior and intermediate level umpires.
We encourage girls and boys (ages 12-16) to become junior and intermediate umpires. This is a great opportunity to earn extra income and gain valuable leadership experience.
If you are interested in umpiring for BASA, please contact Steven Hewson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Softball Ontario is hosting umpire clinics – April 2016
Junior Clinic – 5 hours
Designed to meet the needs of the young novice umpire. The clinic covers umpire signals, using the rulebook, game management techniques, the role of the umpire, umpire responsibilities and the rules.
The Junior umpire receives a Softball Ontario Junior Umpire manual, a clinic certificate and accident and liability insurance coverage.
Intermediate Clinic – 7 hours
Ages 15-18, or an individual under 15 who has taken a Junior clinic
The Intermediate clinic (7 hours) is designed for young officials under 19 to be able to officiate at house league games and to prepare them as they advance in their umpiring career. What a great way for Minor Softball Associations who want to continue training their umpires for their minor divisions and house league games.
Instructional topics covered at this clinic include: game management techniques, the role of the umpire, umpire responsibilities and in depth look at the rules of the game.
The Intermediate umpire receives a Softball Ontario Junior and Intermediate Manual, a clinic certificate, a Softball Canada rule book and accident and liability insurance coverage.
